Brief Introduction on Malacca

Malacca / Melaka is the third smallest Malaysian state. It is also known as The Historic State or Negeri Bersejarah among locals. It is located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, on the Straits of Malacca. It is one of the historic cities of the Straits of Malacca and has developed over 500 years of trading and cultural exchanges between East and West. The influences of Asia and Europe have endowed the towns with a specific multicultural heritage. This historical city has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 7 July 2008. Malacca was the location of one of the earliest Malay sultanates. However, the monarchy was abolished when the Portuguese conquered it in 1511.The Yang di-Pertua Negeri or Governor, rather than a Sultan, acts as the head of state.
